Entry requirements

No qualifications or experience required.


Conduct play activities with children, cleaning tasks, care for children such as changing nappies.


Learners will need access to a computer with an internet connection, basic desktop applications such as Microsoft Office or OpenOffice, a pdf reader, headphones or speakers.


Learners will need basic computer skills to write simple documents, watch lectures and complete assessments.


Have language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform tasks related to an AQF level 3 qualification which may include recording care routines, maintaining education and care notes, providing written feedback to parents, recording medication and nutritional information, reading workplace documents, reporting hazards, preparing child development sessions.


Be aged 16 years or over.


Learners will need to obtain clearances as part of this course such as police checks and/or WWCC.


Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents, all visa types are eligible except student visa holders (note that not all visas are eligible for government funding).

Next intake for combo programs is April 1, 2019.



External - Supported and structured pathway for learners likely to be successful in an external mode.


12 months including orientation at the beginning and time at the end to finalise assessments. This course is expected to take approximately 1250 hours to complete. Students are initially enrolled for a 12 month period and can apply for extensions if required.



Short answer questions, case studies, projects, workplace scenarios, workplace logbook and experience record, assessor observations (site visits).



120 hours minimum in a registered service approved by your trainer. Our trainers visit every student during their work placement to provide mentoring, support and guidance.
